PROJECT WAKING OF ADOLESCENCE – ATTENDING THEIR PERSONAL NEEDS: EXPERIENCE REPORT

Abstract

The project began as a need to have a place to take care of teenagers considering all their personal needs. The community chosen to develop the project took in consideration the lack of sanitary and environment structure, with high incidence of prostitution, violence and pregnancy among the adolescence. The project aimed at taking care of the bio-psycho-social-cultural aspects, promoting and preventing health, with educational actions in primary attention, making them feel as citizens. The methodology was quantitative and qualitative using some statistic analysis and interview. The developed actions were group dynamics, sports and professional activities. The most frequent asked questions were registered, observations and their participation’s in the group. In 1999, a social and economical research was carried out, with 500 adolescents, aged 12 to 18 years old. Today there are approximately 280 enrolled adolescents in activities in the project and every 6 months, there are new enrollments. In weekly and monthly meetings, diverse and dynamic techniques are used such as group discussion, reflection and information exchange. The challenge is combining, involving and integrating the significant life knowledge teenagers. Working with them means using direct and open dialogue and showing flexibility, openness and respect for them.
