Abstract

An exploratory qualitative study aiming to know mothers’ perception of quality of life of the child withcerebral palsy was developed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 20 mothers of children aged 2-7 years who were in attendance at the Center for Treatment and Early Stimulation, where this research was developed. Theresults were analyzed based on thematic analysis techniques, emerging the categories “Perception of Quality of Life” and“Quality of Life of the Son with Cerebral Palsy”. It was evident that the perception is associated with financial aspects, aswell as the development of activities of daily living. Mothers refer to a poor quality of life of the child, placing themselvesas responsible; they are affected by prejudice and denial process of the child with a disability, which interferes in carewithin the family. The study contributes as a reflection on the stigma imposed for children with cerebral palsy.
