Abstract

The purpose of this article is to show
the methodological strategy applied for research
whose goals were: to analyze the process and
restructure the instrument of professional nursing
performance. Thus, considering that it was essential
that such a change was grounded on the institution’s
values and culture, we have chosen a qualitative
perspective or action research so that it could
express the institutional collective of the nursing
team. Work organization in the action research went
through the following phases: situational diagnosis,
sampling and qualitative representativeness, data
collection using focus group technique, planning,
action and evaluation. The use of action research to
develop this study facilitated the goal’s achievement
besides, as it was expected, it fostered the reflection
upon ultimate aspects not only on the process of
performance appraisal, but also on the policy and
management of nursing human resources in the
institution.
