The best cultivation conditions for a Trichosporon sp. strain, isolated from waste water in cassava processing was settled down in order to improve biomass production and carbohydrate consumption. The medium composition used in the surface fermentation was prepared with 20 g/L of hydrolysed cassava starch, 20 ppm of KCN, 5 g/L yeast extract, 3.77 g/L (NH4)2SO4, 0.11 g/L KH2PO4, 3.7112 g/L MgSO4.7H2O, 3.1915 g/L KCl, 0.6223 g/L CaCl2, 0.1096 g/L FeSO4.7H2O, 0.0106 g/L ZnSO4.7H2O, 0.0081g/L CoCl2.6H2O, 0.0049 g/L MnSO4.H2O, 0.0039 g/L CuSO45H2O. The experimental design comprehends, as indicator, the mycelium dry weight in g/L and the residual sugar, also in g/L. The results showed that the strain was able to grow in both 20 and 30 °C, even in the presence of cyanide, and that the oxygen is required in a supply of surface/volume ratio ranging from 0,30 to 0,60.
