Abstract

Between 1993 and 1995 the State Health Organization of Paraná (Brazil) monitored the quality of the Ilex paraguariensis produced, traded or consumed all over the Province. Microscopical, bacteriological and phycico-chemical analysis have been run to characterize and check the quality of the product. Among 251 samples, 107 showed characteristics in disagreemente with the in force law, representing about 42,62% of the total sampled material, acoording to the official reports frow LACEN – the Central Laboratory of Paraná State.
