The armed forces constitute a paradigmatic example within the scope of leadership policies, due to the need for the group of military personnel to act together in the pursuit of interests established at a higher level. Black Hawk Down is a 2001 film directed and produced by Ridley Scott, which portrays the civil war in Somalia, in the early 1990s, with the participation of military personnel from the United States of America. The initial mission was to contribute to the security of logistical support, in terms of food and medicine, for the Somali population but, with Aidid's declaration of war on UN forces, a Ranger Task Force is allocated to the conflict. The objective of this article is to analyze the values and principles that underpin leadership on the battlefield in the film. This is a documentary research, which starts from the analysis of the narratives of the film's characters, seeking to portray a specific discursive practice. The Wildland Fire Leadership Values and Principles of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group were used as an analysis framework. The results identify the values of respect, duty, leadership and integrity as essential elements to cultivate the cohesion of the military, in order to guide decisions according to the proposed objectives.
