Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not being evaluated for publication by any other journal; otherwise, you must justify in “Comments to the editor.”

  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word format or PDF (as long as it does not exceed 2 MB).

  • The text is 1.5-spaced; uses a 12pt-sized font, Times New Roman; uses italics instead of underlining (except in URL addresses); brings figures and tables included in the body itself, not at the end of the document, such as annexes.

  • It removes the identification of authorship of the work and the file in the Properties option in Word, ensuring, thus, the criterion of secrecy of the journal, if it is submitted for peer review.

  • The text follows the standards of style and bibliographic requirements outlined in Guidelines to Authors on the page About the journal.

Author Guidelines

Adherence:

The aim of the publication, with biannual frequency, is to present texts with theoretical discussions and/or unpublished research reports in communication, society and culture, providing graduate students, researchers and academics in general a space for debate and deepening of ideas. In this sense, Media Action accepts the contribution of authors that propose works pertinent to the focus of the journal and the Graduate Program in Communication and Society of Federal University of Parana.

The content of works represents the viewpoint of their authors, not the official position of the journal, its editorial board or the Federal University of Parana.

The accuracy of the data published in articles is the sole responsibility of their authors.

Types of publication:

Texts must be original, unpublished in books and academic journals, and address studies related to the dossier of the edition with open call and/or intended for continuous demand section, keeping the focus on Communication, Society and Culture.

The ARTICLES can be produced by doctors, doctoral candidates and masters; masters students only in co-authorship with doctors. And they must present:

a) opinionated/reflexive nature;

b) discussions and results come from theoretical or empirical research;

c) bibliographic review – since it is linked to the state-of-the-art that constitutes effectively an original contribution to the communication field.

The REVIEWS can be produced by doctors, masters or students from stricto sensu graduate programs (academic or professionalizing masters and doctorate). They must come from published or re-edited works in the present year or in the previous one to the publication of the ongoing edition.

The editorial team of the journal is responsible for the INTERVIEW section, with the aim of promoting discussions and counting on the contribution of a guest who is specialist on the theme of each dossier.

Structure, formatting and submission:

Works must be sent according to the formatting model described here, under penalty of those ones in a different format not being accepted.

The texts should not contain any information that could identify them (such as authorship, co-authorship, academic and professional credits etc.). Articles and reviews will be evaluated by blind peer review, and the author himself is responsible for adding this information into the Registration Act and article submission by the journal system.

The ARTICLES must have a minimum of 30 and the maximum of 35 thousand characters (with spaces), including titles, abstracts and references. The extent of the references of the work must not exceed two pages, except in cases that newspapers and magazines are used as corpus of analysis and these appear in the references list.

The manuscripts must be presented in Word format (.doc), with up to 2 MB (in case the file size is beyond this limit, we recommend attaching images as supplementary documents).
