Abstract

Necropsy is a post-mortem criterious exam that helps in clinical diagnosis and consists in external and internal analysis of body cavities and organs of a corpse in order to determine the cause of death or to verify the extension and the nature of lesions caused by diseases. Considering the bonds between owners and their pets many veterinarians seems to visualize necropsy as a difficult task. This fact has gained great importance in avian Veterinary Medicine since bird owners have both love and economic bonds. Necropsy in often neglected in Veterinary Medicine although being a very important practice for the professional learning and also for reaching a reliable diagnosis of certain diseases. For this reason, this article aims to describe the procedure for performing avian cosmetic necropsy, which keeps the external characteristics of animals and increases the acceptance of owners by not disfiguring the corpse.

Médico Veterinário graduado pelo Centro Universitário Monte Serrat (2002). Biólogo graduado pelo Centro Universitário Monte Serrat (2004). Residência médica-veterinária no Laboratório de Ornitopatologia da Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia (FMVZ) da Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP - Campus de Botucatu (2007). Mestre em patologia aviária pelo Departamento de clínica veterinária da FMVZ - UNESP - Campus de Botucatu (2009). Doutorando em patologia aviária pelo Departamento de clínica veterinária da FMVZ - UNESP - Capus de Botucatu. Autor do livro "Emergências na clínica aviária"(2010 - Editora MedVet).

Breno Souza Salgado, Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu - Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP

Médico Veterinário graduado pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa (2008). Fez residência em Patologia Animal na Universidade Estadual Paulista "Julio de Mesquita Filho" - UNESP, Campus de Araçatuba (2010). Atualmente é mestrando do programa de Pós-graduação em Patologia na Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu - UNESP. Tem experiência nas áreas de anatomia patológica veterinária, oncologia veterinária, imunologia e protozoologia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: patologia veterinária e oncologia veterinária.
