AVALIAÇÃO DE CULTIVARES DE MILHO PARA PRODUÇÃO DE SILAGEM DE ALTA QUALIDADE
Abstract
Evaluation of corn cultivars for production of high quality silage
Abstract
A field experiment was held at the Palotinas Federal University of Paraná
Experimental Field, during the agriculture year of l997-1998 with the objective of observing the
performance of 12 cultivars of corn (Zea mais L.) for ensilage. Percentage of the following parameters
was evaluated: crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and total
digestible nutrients (TDN). Values for dry matter ingestion (DMI), dry matter digestibility (DMD) and the
relative field value (RFV) were also estimated. No significant differences (P>0.05) were found between
the cultivars in regard to crude protein, acid detergent fiber and dry matter digestibility. On the other
hand, significant differences (P<0.05) for the other parameters were found between some cultivars.
Based in these results and in the conditions of the present experiment, no cultivar could be elected as
being the best one. Nevertheless it is the producers responsibility to analyze and choose the cultivar
best adapted to each specific case and plant it.
