Abstract

A mask stood out in the June 2013 protests in Brazil. This is the symbol of Anonymous, a network that does not identify itself as a group or movement, but as an idea. The mask can be seen in demonstration records around the globe: from mobilizations in North Africa from 2011 to several other countries. In addition to having their symbol mask widely adopted, they acted as important mediators of the Brazilian protests of June 2013. It is understood here that this performance is not an isolated event, but is part of a process that involves cultural transformations in the youth ambit. , communication and politics - aspects that dialogue with each other and converge in the application of the concept of network to the researched situation. It is about laying the groundwork for the investigation of the socio-political significance of Anonymous's performance in the June demonstrations, from the perspective of social network movements that integrate communication, culture and politics.
