English teachers’ education has more than ever been characterized by the demand for all-purpose professionals: Who have the ability to join deep knowledge of studies in subjects focused on the language, to the mastery of acquaintance which could answer the needs of a society made up of single subjects, belonging to social classes that massif such singularities. Hence, educating English language teachers becomes an extremely complex task, since it must be part of a wider political project for the society, as Giroux e McLaren advocate (2002 apud FURTOSO E GIMENEZ, 2008). Therefore, we glimmer research as an essential component for such purpose, specifically in this article, the kind of research, which is concerned about studying curriculum. The word curriculum has infinity definitions, as well as diverse theories that struggle to understand its meanings, which will be presented here. The current paper has secondary basis, considering it is a literature review. We believe that not only by understanding the importance of the curriculum as a tool for teachers’ labor, but also by the comprehending those professionals as participants in its building process, a teachers’ education corresponding to the present social demands could be conceived.
