Abstract

The article analyzes gender stereotypes in EFL classroom books, concentrating specifically in the book American Inside Out, that is used by English teachers at Celin in pre-intermediate levels. The article discusses briefly the theory behind gender relationships in post-modern times, as well as the use of EFL classroom books inside the critical literacy approach. The analysis of the book concentrates not only in the gender stereotypes, but also in the ways in which students received these stereotypes, being able to reflect critically about them and make productive discussions in classroom.
