Resumo

This study analyzes the temporal evolution of the frequency from low relative humidity (RH) events recorded at the A001 automatic weather station of the Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology (INMET), located in Brasília, Federal District, Brazil, between 2004 and 2024. Daily minimum RH data were used, considering three critical thresholds, ≤25%, ≤20%, and ≤15%. A trend analysis was performed using the Mann–Kendall test and Sen’s slope estimator, complemented by wavelet spectral analysis to identify periodicities. The results indicate an increase in the annual frequency of events throughout the period, with a statistically significant trend for the ≤25% threshold (p<0.05). The annual mean number of days with RH ≤25% increased from X days in 2004–2014 to Y days in 2015–2024, represents an increase of 35.22%. For the ≤20% and ≤15% thresholds, increases of 41.43% and 76.27% were observed, respectively. Wavelet analysis identified periodicities between 2 and 4 years, consistent with inter-annual variability commonly associated with ENSO. Years classified as El Niño presented, on average, higher numbers of days with critical relative humidity. Overall, the results indicate an increase in the frequency of low relative humidity events at the observation site. However, the relatively short time series and the use of a single station limit a spatial generalization. This study contributes to the local climate
