The limitations of the application of Complex Interdependence in the International Climate Change Regime (ICCR)

In the year 1720, the Industrial Revolution took place, an event that generated an intensification of human actions, which degrade the global environment. The growth of the exploration of the environment has generated negative consequences on the daily lives of countless societies on the planet, such as climate change, tsunamis, hurricanes, and droughts, thus resulting in the growth of the presence of the environmental agenda in the debates of the international system. That said, the present paper discussed the applicability of the theory of Complex Interdependence (CI) outside the context in which it was created, that is, in a period marked by the International Climate Change Regime (ICCR). To this end, the article aims to discuss the theory of Complex Interdependence, to establish its central characteristics and talk about the structure of the ICCR, to analyze the applicability of the theory concerning the regime. The chosen methodology was the bibliographic analysis of Power and Interdependence by Keohane and Nye (2012), a key work when the focus is CI. Thus, it is observed that many attributes of the CI can be used to understand the RIMC since the regime can be analyzed from the central elements of the CI.
