African countries in climate governance: an analysis of the conference of the parties (COPs)

African countries are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. In this regard, this article aims at analyzing the increase of African countries' participation in climate governance from the Conferences of the Parties (COPs), held within the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). For this, a documental analysis was made from the lists of official participants of the COPs meetings, as well as a bibliographical review on the subject. This article intends to draw attention to the need to facilitate the participation and greater representation of African countries in the arenas of climate governance, seeking to promote cooperation above all to leverage the development of adaptation policies in these countries, which are, notably, some of the most vulnerable to climate change, as well as some of the least developed in the world. As shown, although there has been an increase in the number of representatives of African countries at the COPs, in practice, this evolution is not very significant, as African countries still do not occupy more prominent spaces in these meetings.
