THE IMPACTS OF CHINA’S INSERTION IN SOUTH AMERICA ON BRAZIL-ARGENTINE RELATIONS AND THE MERCOSUR (2011-2014)

Abstract

This paper intends to trace perspective of the impacts that China’s insertion on South America may have to Mercosur’s integration, focusing in its agreement with Argentina, the Convênio Marco de Cooperação. Having in mind the importance of Brazil-Argentine relations to Mercosur, discusses the visions of the two big countries about the initiative, and the evolution of its relations in the moment of the agreement to ponder chinese influence. In theoretical terms, it is utilized Celso Furtado’s concept of decision centers as mastermind of the conception of the development and integration processes, which, according to bibliographic review and analized documentation, points to the incapacitation of Mercosur to overcome periferical modes of international insertion of the region if chinese presence consolides a new form of dependence.
