Bodies that teach, body that learn: a study on corporeality of nursing care

The present article aims to understand the relationship between professional practical training
in nursing and the body, paying attention to how nurses’ practices are part of a learning process
in which the body is the central element. We carried out an ethnographic study with students and
professors of the nursing faculty of a public university in Minas Gerais. The study allowed us to understand how nursing practical training involved a process of acquiring specific postures, gestures, and movements, whose learning took place effectively through the practical engagement of students in care environments and constant training in the characteristic practices of the profession. The students were guided by teachers who, with their bodies already equipped with these skills, were responsible for conducting and structuring a physical environment, guiding them in attention to posture and control of gestures and movements.
