Abstract

The present work had the objective of evaluating the viability of the cultivation for the edible fungus Lentinula edodes (shiitake) over agroindustrial residues produced in Paraná State. The traditional cultivation for this mushroom is made over trunks and scobs of Quercus acutissima and Q. serrata (chesnut tree) and it takes about sixteen months. Looking for alternative substrates for time reduction and growing possibility, the raw cassava waste with 20% of sugarcane residues has shown a good option. The spawn was produced on wheat grains and inoculated in plastic bags containing raw cassava waste. The basidiocarps growth was observed after 65 days inoculation, which represents a time reduction of seven times when compared to the traditional method.
