Abstract

The expansion of sugarcane agro-industries causes environmental changes that can negatively impact insect fauna. This study evaluated the diversity of social wasps (Vespidae: Polistinae) in two areas influenced by the Bambuí Bioenergia S/A plant, located in the municipality of Bambuí, Minas Gerais. Collections were carried out using traps attractive to diluted honey for six weeks, between November and December 2024. Sixty-nine individuals belonging to nine species, distributed in five genera, were recorded. The predominance of widely distributed species associated with anthropized environments indicates a fauna adapted to local conditions and potentially resilient to environmental disturbances. Furthermore, the occurrence of species recognized as predators of agricultural pests highlights the ecological role of social wasps as natural agents of biological control in sugarcane systems.
