This Article aims to reflect on the possible determinants of school success among individuals in social position of disadvantage. The social position has become an important indicator in research in sociology of education from the 1960s, when several studies in the United States and Europe proved irrefutable statistics associations between the levels of access to school and social groups (BARBOSA, 2009). Thus, we seek to confront the arguments of the theories of human capital, reproductivist theories, neoweberianas theories and empirical research conducted in Brazil on education inequalities, in relation to chances of educational success in contexts of social disadvantage.
