Abstract

ABSTRACT: It is known that classic literary works are revisited from many kinds of  media and they can be used as inspiration to cinematographic adaptations, plays, and so  on, or also, they can continue in the same media, for instance, they can be adapted or  used as an intertext in a novel. In this context, we can find connections between  canonical literature and mass literature in a sense that mass literature can use classic  literary texts as material to contribute in its plot. Thus, as two novels from  Twilight  Saga (Stephenie Meyer), New Moon and Eclipse, have in their plots, respectively, the  intertext with Romeo and Juliet  and  Wuthering Heights,  the goal of this article is to  analyze how these intertextual resources are used in the written media and check how  they are represented on their film adaptations. This analysis is performed as an attempt  to show the possible influence from mass literature and film adaptations in the  formation of the reader. To do that, this study is  based on Kristeva (1978), Venuti  (2002), Koch (2005), Diniz (2005), Hutcheon (2006), Clüver (1997; 2007), among others.
