Correlacional study among locus of control and human values

The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between the locus of control dimensions and the human values dimensions. The participants were 355 university students from Aracaju city, Sergipe (female: 62,8%; single: 80%), with average age of 25,68 years (ranging from 17 to 56 years). The students answered the Reyes locus of control scale and Schwartz values scale. The results indicate that the instruments were adequate to measure the purpose the objectives, presenting satisfactory measuring conditions. The locus of control was analyzed as two factors, internal and external and the values in four factors, auto-transcendence values, auto-promotion values, openness to change values and conservation values. Analyses revealed partial correlations between the variables. The discussion details the inter-relations between the cognitive and psychosocial variables, and the compatibility and conflict levels in the variables.
