Abstract

Delinquent behavior of female adolescents have been related to the occurrence of stressful events, as well as other individual and contextual risk factors. This study investigated the life trajectory of 50 adolescent girls, aged 13 to 20 years old, who had had problems with the law, were in a governmental shelter in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Exposure to risk factors and the development of these adolescents were investigated through individual semi-structured interviews. The findings showed a successive rupture of attachments, in childhood, between these adolescents and their parents or primary caregivers, and exposure to domestic and community violence. A lack of stability and fragility to primary attachments throughout their lives, as well as stressful events were observed, and the consequences could be associated to non-adaptative behaviors and female juvenile delinquency.

Keywords: delinquency; risk factors; adolescence.
