Abstract

This is an article by Alfred Döblin, published in Moscou, in 1938, about the peculiarity of the historical novel, its acceptance by the public and its relations with History. The author intended to show the differences and similarities between the historical novel and the work of historians, as well as to emphasize the role of the artist compromised with reality, mainly regarding the need to support the poor and the opressed.
