Abstract

The article holds as its object of study the military organizations in
charge of rendering free service and at which all the subjects able to
take upon arms were compulsorily engaged: the Armies of Auxiliaries
and of Ordinances. Our aim is to demonstrate that the importance of
such military organizations throughout the second half of the 18th
Century was due not only to its functioning as defense and maintenance of the territorial possession, but also to the role and the relevance assumed in its symbolic potential to express and represent a social order one aimed at building.
