Abstract

This article aims to understand the establishment of consumer culture in the 1950's-60's, taking into account the relationship between crime, fashion and the media. In order to accomplish that, a study regarding the repercussions of the killing of a young woman Aída Curi – murdered in Copacabana neighborhood (RJ) by Cássio Murilo Ferreira and Ronaldo Guilherme Castro – and the criminal acts of the Kray brothers, residents of the London Suburb of East End. The similarities between the cases will be demonstrated through analysis of their elegant style. The criminals were shown by the media as rebellious fashion icons and their criminal behaviors were seen as a mix of rebellion and style.
