Energy, war and transition: the Ukraine War and the new paradigms of energy consumption

Abstract

The article investigates the effects of the war between Russia and Ukraine on the new directions of electric energy transition, while trying to verify how (or if) the conflict can accelerate this transition. To this end, the article aims to deal with issues involving the theme of energy, focusing on the relationship between Russia and Europe, focusing on its history, the new issues resulting from the war, and the possible new directions of this relationship. The aim is to understand the consequences of the conflict regarding the potential for accelerating the transition to renewable energies, as well as to greater energy independence from the European Union. Qualitative research was carried out on the subject, using various available data and articles, which indicate that the conflict itself, in principle, could indeed accelerate and stimulate a transition to clean energy, but that such a process would encounter barriers in the current European operational and political situation.
