Abstract

An ethnographic study about the eldersselfcare in a surgical unit and at their homes. Field data were collected from August/2002 until March/2003, founded on Spradleys participant observation and ethnographic interview. The aim of this study was to get to know how elderly surgical patients deliver self-care during the hospitalization in a surgical unit and at home after discharge. There were (5) identified domains. The theme evolved from the ethnographic description was: the elders self-care, the meaning cobwebs that they weaved.
