This paper is part of results of the research “A profile of the elderly as a user of public health services in the county of Florianópolis - SC, Brazil”. It aims at contributing with a diagnosis, giving support to plannig, assessment, revision of policies and specific health care to the aged. The findings demonstrate that: older women look for health care more than men; women are more often found as caregivers to the elderly in regards to daily activities or in case of illness. Finally, this research also concludes, that, the support to the elderly is still restricted to the family members.
