The teaching of rugby in Latin America goes beyond the technical-tactical dimension: it is configured as a subjectivation device where law, desire, and jouissance converge. This essay explores the practice and teaching of rugby from a Lacanian perspective, understanding that this sport not only shapes bodies but also produces subjects. Using the concepts of master signifiers, imaginary identification, jouissance, and transference, the symbolic and unconscious operations structuring the relationships between players, coaches, and the body in play are analyzed. A critique of gender mandates present in rugby is proposed, as well as an opening toward a pedagogy of desire that acknowledges the subjective effects of this bodily practice.
