Abstract

Tem-se na atualidade um debate muito intenso e profícuo sobre o esporte na perspectiva das ciências humanas e sociais, entretanto, encontramos ainda limitações na concepção e entendimento da complexidade que caracteriza o esporte. Dessa forma, é necessário discutir as concepções e definições que podem contribuir para uma melhor compreensão e delimitação do esporte enquanto um objeto de estudo sociológico. Nossa proposta é oferecer alternativas para avançar nesse propósito apresentando argumentos que poderão dar maior relevância e consistência ao debate. Com base nesta premissa, o presente ensaio tem por objetivo iniciar uma discussão acerca das possibilidades de interpretação e correlação do esporte com o conceito de mimesis ou mimetismo social apresentado no conjunto da obra de Norbert Elias.
