Abstract

The present work aims to rethink the conceptual constructs and definitions about the sport. For that, we identified and analyzed various academic and institutional contributions that they were reference in the area in their respective historical times. Based on this analysis process and theoretical investigation was possible to present a conceptual comprehension proposal guided by polysemics and dimensional elements of the contemporary society and a model of analysis that allows minimally interpret and understand the sport inserted in this context.

Wanderley Marchi Júnior é professor nos programas de graduação em Educação Física e pós-graduação em Educação Física e Sociologia na Universidade Federal do Paraná. É coordenador do Centro de Pesquisas em Esporte, Lazer e Sociedade (CEPELS UFPR), presidente da Asociación Latinoamericana de Estudios Socioculturales del Deporte (ALESDE) e membro do corpo editorial de revistas internacionais na área de Sociologia do Esporte. É bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq.
