This paper presents a research that attempt to the media construction of scheduling strategies by Rede Record, as well as its sporting broadcasts of the 2011 Guadalajara Pan American Games. Since it was a unique moment for the Brazilian sports culture, because of the uniqueness of that exclusive open signal broadcast, and for breaking the hegemony of Globo Television Network, we realized that this coverage focused on a nationalist characteristic, with an emphasis on entertainment and on the station’s self-promotion, corroborating issues regarding commodification and the spectacle of sports.
