Nowadays, the public speeches of the authorities and the path of the public policies include sports as a tool to reach public objectives. In the Chilean case, the President Sebastian Piñera has proposed to turn Chile into a “country of sports players”, speech declared in his government proposal and in many other public situations. Given the importance of this speech, the proposal is to understand how this “country of sports players” is built from the speech and what this implies. The present research approaches this topic from the discourse analysis perspective, focusing in the metaphors that have been used to build this country. The outcomes show a strong relation between the figure of the sport player and the ideal citizen who has a moral with strong values of entrepreneurship and competition.
