Why Kant? Still a conflict about what is Enlightenment

Criticism of Kant has recently resurfaced in the Brazilian philosophical community. Kant is presented as a philosopher who would have laid the foundations for scientific racism and who would have formulated, in a more finished way, the project of European domination of the world that became known as the Enlightenment. The text aims to intervene in this debate by drawing attention to another figure from the 18th century German philosophical scene, Christoph Meiners. The aim is to show, still briefly, the Enlightenment as a dispute between two projects, one linked to emancipation, the other to domination. In this dispute, Kant and Meiners occupy opposing camps.
