The Kantian interpretation of the principle of sufficient reason

Abstract

My objective with this work is to present a reading key for what Kant calls the “principle of sufficient reason”, showing that, with this name, he refers, both in pre-critical period and in the critical, only to the principle of causality and not to the principle of sufficient reason formulated by Leibniz, offering opening for interpretations such as that of Longuenesse, who sees in Kant a reduction of this principle to that. In order to defend this position, I will try to reconstruct the possible path that the principle of sufficient reason took from Leibniz to Kant, passing mainly through Wolff and the debates that followed the tradition founded by him in the German philosophical thought, arguing that, in the process of appropriation that the Wolffian school made of the Leibnizian principle, its link with the unconditioned ended up being forgotten or ignored, so that its reduction to the principle of causality becames inevitable.

Leibniz e Immanuel Kant (com ênfase nos desdobramentos relativos ao conceito de causalidade ao status nomológico do princípio de razão suficiente).
