Resumo

Este artigo propõe uma reflexão metodológica. Apresenta-se um diálogo entre teorias sociológicas do século passado e a pesquisa com mídia digital que o autor vem desenvolvendo. O objetivo é discutir como uma etnografia virtual contemporânea pode ser informada pela Escola de Chicago e pelo Interacionismo Simbólico representados pelas obras "Sociedade de Esquina" e "A representação do eu na vida cotidiana". O argumento principal conduz às possibilidades metodológicas atemporais que essas teorias sociológicas têm, mesmo que para objetos virtuais e etnografias contemporâneas.
