A study was implemented to identify the social situations considered as pleasant and unpleasant by a sample of 40 graduate students from social and exact science areas, using a questionnaire containing open questions. The situations involved acquaintances and friends, strangers and family members. The results showed that the students identified spontaneously 93 social situations considered as unpleasant and 82 considered as pleasant, which were classified in 21 categories. Seven categories of social situations overlapped the pleasant and unpleasant classifications. Ten categories were exclusively unpleasant containing 66 situations. Four categories were exclusively pleasant containing 32 situations. The most frequently cited category of unpleasant situations was “expressing dissatisfaction and/or asking someone a behavior change”. The most cited pleasant category was “participating in social situations involving amusement and going out”. The results confirmed data from the literature of this area and are going to be used for the construction of a social skills scale based in role play situations.
