Neuropsychologycal intervention in pediatric neurology centre: a project of extensions university

The aim of the present article is to describe a hospital psychologist’s area of work in the pediatric neuropsychology field, giving the concept of neuropsychology as well as evaluation and rehabilitation in this subject. The aim is also to report on professional experience which takes place through a University project. The project, titled “Neuropsychologycal Intervention in Pediatric Neurology Centre”, consists of implantation of Neuropsychological service at “Hospital de Clínica’s” neuropediatric centre (CENEP-HC) through the Laboratory of Neuropsychology of the Psychology department at UFPR. The board of this project is composed of scholars, professional of the medicine area, psychology professors, as well as other professionals that work at CENEP-HC. The primary purpose of the project is to provide the attended population at this medical centre a Neuropsychological service of high quality, as well as to present the work developed in the neuropsychology area. The work consists of neuropsychological evaluation and intervention in patients that have several neurological damages of different nature. These procedures have the purpose of helping the patients’ diagnosis, providing neuropsychological support and refers them to other professionals thus avoiding un necessary referrals. The goals are accomplished by visiting the hospital, neuropsychological assessment and intervention, weekly supervision meetings, theoretical and practical discussions on patients’ conditions and referrals to other professionals. More over, as a result of this project and its practice, information material on proper neuropsychological evaluation and intervention was developed, based on the population attended at CENEP-HC.
