Abstract

The objective of this paper is to discuss the matter of psychiatric diagnostic when inserted in clinical psychoanalysis. Starting with issues and dilemmas between the vision of classic psychiatric psychopathology and psychoanalytic theory, we seek to demonstrate different epistemological visions that are central to the question. The counterpoints between these approaches are discussed, pointing out strengths and problems in both of them. Finally, a crucial aspect for discussion is considered: the patient who seeks psychotherapy and his complexity, while unique and singular individual, suffering from symptoms common to other subjects. We conclude by proposing a phenomenological vision of clinic and diagnostic, where the subject is neither an object nor a closed system.
