The fit or congruence between the worker and the work environment is a relevant factor for performance and well-being in the organizational environment, having repercussions on commitment, involvement, and the desire to remain in the organization. The objective of this study was to analyze the associations between congruence and reciprocity among workers, seeking evidence of the importance of congruence in the composition of efficient and sustainable internal work networks. We characterize it as a case study using a quantitative survey design and social network analysis. Sixty-one employees from a medium-sized third-sector company participated in the study. To calculate congruence, the participants answered measures of professional interests (EIV) and occupational demands (ICO-R), as well as two sociometric questions to map reciprocal interactions via intra-organizational networks, one for support networks and the other for work networks. The results indicated positive and significant associations between congruence and reciprocity only within the work network. We identified in the investigated organization that the most congruent professionals demonstrated more reciprocal interactions when faced with operational demands, as opposed to situations where they were seeking support and cooperation.
