Abstract

The purpose of this article is to propose an articulation between the notion of psychic transmission and the concept of the “Name-of-the-Father”. In order to achieve this goal, we  reflect on the Oedipus complex in Freud, culminating in the formation of the Superego. Next, we present the issue of Oedipus for Lacan and the paternal metaphor, in which Lacan proposes an understanding of the father’s role in the Oedipus complex. Finally, we address the inscription of the “Name-of-the-Father” and the introduction of the father’s signifier as an arrangement in the lineage and in the series of successive generations.
