Abstract

The study investigated sexual expressions of disabled students at school, from the viewpoint of 40 teachers. The content of the reports, obtained through interviews, was organized in thematic groupings: the non-occurrence of sexual expressions, the occurrence of sexual nature comments and sexual behaviors. The students’ sexual expressions, according to the teachers’ reports, were the ones expected for their age, with no evidence of atypical patterns. In the few cases where inadequate expressions were reported, they were considered as caused by the environment and not as an inherent characteristic of the disability. Most of the teachers judged the students sexuality based on their own values, indicating a gap on teachers training concerning sexual education.

Keywords: sexuality; disability; teachers’conceptions.
