LIBERTOS ANTIGUOS, RACISMO MODERNO. LAS MANUMISIONES EN ROMA Y LA HISTORIOGRAFÍA DEL SIGLO XX

Resumo

En este artículo se propone un examen de obras historiográficas producidas en la primera mitad del siglo XX, con el objetivo de analizar sus consideraciones acerca de la esclavitud y de las manumisiones en la Roma antigua. A través de los conceptos de recepción de la Antigüedad y Usos del Pasado, se pone de relieve la presencia, en las obras examinadas, de teorías raciales modernas en los escritos acerca de las manumisiones practicadas en la Antigüedad Romana. Por último, el análisis verifica la presencia de las discusiones acerca de la composición étnica de las sociedades modernas, en Europa y en los EEUU, en la escrita de la Historia Antigua del último siglo.
