Author Guidelines

DESCRIPTION OF THE EVALUATION PROCESS

One of the Scientific Editors will first analyze the submitted manuscript and, in case norms are not respected, it will be returned to author(s) to be adjusted, or refused by lack of merit or scope. After this first phase, when the article respects the norms, at least two ad hoc reviewers will evaluate the article. Author(s) will be required to add suggestions/corrections of the reviewers, or justify what they disagree.

The Editorial Board, after evaluation from the ad hoc reviewers, will have the task to decide on whether to publish or not the article.

The review does not publish technical notes or scientific review articles.

SUBMISSION

Those interested in publishing on Revista Floresta will have to send their works through the Electronic Journals System (Sistema Eletronico de Revistas) (SER), entering the website www.ser.ufpr.br/floresta.

Works classified as technical notes or reviews will not be accepted.

NORMS FOR PUBLICATION

The article shall be in a compatible format with Microsoft-Word, with the following characteristics: Paper A4 (210x297 mm); text spacing: simple; top margin 3.0 cm, bottom margin 3.0, left 3.5 cm, right 2.5 cm, page headers and footers 1.5 cm; font: Times New Roman 10; number of pages: maximum 12, tables and figures included.

All topics (introduction, material and methods, results, discussion, conclusion and references) must be to the left in bold, not numbered and uppercase. In case of subtopics, the following order shall be respected: the first subtopic in bold style, lowercase, with only the first initial in uppercase; the second subtopic same as first, without bold style.

The use of attachments is not allowed.

TITLE: centralized, without bold style, uppercase, font size 14, not more than 20 words.

AUTHOR(S): font size 10, right beneath the title, centralized, only the first initial uppercase, linked with superscript. Below the name(s) of the author(s), separated by only one space, in font size 8, shall appear the institution they belong to, city, state, country and electronic address. Corresponding author shall be highlighted. The described information shall be signed up at submission in the Sistema Eletrônico de Revistas (SER).

It is necessary to forward a detailed description of the contribution of each author to the article. The journal may arbitrate on the number of authors and their real contributions. This declaration shall appear in the system as SUPPELEMENTARY DOCUMENT attachment (Documento Suplementar).

ABSTRACT AND RESUMO: the words abstract and resumo only with initials uppercase, centralized and in bold style, and their texts drafted in only one paragraph, not exceeding 200 words. At the end of abstract and resumo shall be included up to five keywords, different from words contained in the title of the article. At the beginning of the resumo shall appear the title of the article in Portuguese and italic.

INTRODUCTION: it is mandatory that it present hypotheses and objective(s) of the study. Scientific names, when cited for the first time in the text, shall be fully written: genus, species and author(s). Acronyms and abbreviations, when appearing for the first time in the text, shall be between brackets, preceded by the full name.

BIBLIOGRAPHIC REVIEW: (may be included in the introduction)

MATERIAL AND METHODS: articles involving plants or other living beings (fungi, insects etc.) shall present a database register number of institutions maintaining scientific collections with public access. This omission will cause refusal of the manuscript.

Formula e shall be included with Word Equation function.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: results and discussion may be presented separately. Citations must follow the name-year system (see REFERENCES). Tables and figures shall be included along the text, with lowercase titles, except the initial letter, in Portuguese and English. Tables shall be produced with a text editor (Word) and shall not be attached as figures in the text. Figures, composed by graphics, pictures and maps, shall be in black and white, without shadowing and borders. Dimensions (height and width) shall not be greater than 15 cm, always with the page oriented as portrait, with subtitles in Times New Roman, not bold style and not italic. The total number of figures and tables shall not be more than eight.

CONCLUSIONS: shall be organized in the form of items, bibliographic citations are not allowed.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: if any.

REFERENCES: at least 70% of the references shall be scientific articles from the last 10 years. The number of citations shall not be more than 25.

Citations appearing in plain text shall be lowercase and in uppercase when between brackets. When there are three or more authors, citation shall be made using “et al.” (in italic). All the authors shall be cited in the references. Ex.: Martins (2009); Campos and Leite (2009); Wendling et al. (2014); (LARCHER, 2006); (BARBOSA; FARIA, 2006); (VENDRAMINI et al., 2011). When there is more than one reference to the same author in the same year, those shall have a lowercase letter after the date for differentiation. Ex.: Machado (2011a); Machado (2011b).

Bibliographic references shall be in alphabetical order, according to the norms of ABNT-NBR – 6023, as for the other aspects not mentioned in this instruction, in conformity with the following examples:
