Da conciliação a unilateralidade: a postura Norte-Americana frente o Irã de Mossadegh (1951-1953)

A presente análise tem como objetivo a compreensão da política externa norte-americana frente ao processo de nacionalização da indústria petrolífera no Irã, sob o governo de Mohammed Mossadegh entre 1951 e 1953. O trabalho divide-se em duas etapas: Primeiramente, analisa-se o período referente ao governo de Mossadegh nos anos de 1951 e 1952; A segunda etapa apresenta enfoque no restante do governo Mossadegh, entre os anos de 1952 e 1953. A hipótese apresentada é que este segundo período levou a uma mudança na postura da política externa norte-americana frente à questão iraniana. Os esforços de Mossadegh, em marginalizar a figura do Xá, causaram preocupação em Washington, que gradualmente passa a adotar uma postura de ação com caráter mais intervencionista – distanciando-se de uma ação conjunta com Londres – culminando na Operação Ajax e a deposição do governo nacionalista em agosto de 1953. Desta forma, a pesquisa pretende contribuir com o debate acerca de tal acontecimento histórico apresentando uma perspectiva distinta para explicar esta contundente mudança na linha de ação norte-americana - em contraste com as justificativas mais utilizadas para tal transformação na linha de atuação que, majoritariamente, partem do princípio da percepção do risco da ascensão do comunismo no país Persa e a influência de Londres no processo. A metodologia apresenta caráter qualitativo, fundamentando-se no método histórico-analítico e descritivo.
