The face, the portrait and the ambiguity of the Sacred

What effect do face and portrait have on sacred experience? To answer this question, we present a set of images of people, artifacts, and situations that are heterogeneous among themselves to trace cartography of the relations between the face, its photographic capture, and the sensitive forms of expression of the sacred in its religious and festive manifestations. Through the register of certain characters in ritual spaces and times, whether inside or outside the country, and in dialogue with reflections from the field of anthropology, we mapped what would unify the different modalities of relationship established with the human face and its communicative power.
