Ernesto De Martino, phenomenology, historicismAbstract
The text presents the main arguments of Religious Phenomenology and Absolute Historicism, an article by Ernesto De Martino published in 1954 and now translated into Portuguese. Against the background of the scientific relevance of the Italian anthropologist, the focus is on the thesis defended by the author in contrasting phenomenological studies and historicist research in the History of Religions. While the former are a typical example of an irrationalist and veiledly religious approach, the latter is based on a commitment to purely human reasons for religious experience, presenting concepts such as crisis of presence and religious de-historicization. The translation of this text intends to promote the author’s work and contribute to the development of the field of History of Religions in Brazil.
