Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Author Guidelines

1 – Authors must observe the following prerequisites:

1.1 – Articles must be unpublished; therefore, they must not have been submitted for evaluation to another journal nor published in other journals or conference proceedings.

1.2 – They must be written in Portuguese.

1.3 – They must have up to four (4) authors:
a) In the case of single authorship, the author must exclusively hold a Doctoral degree.
b) In the case of co-authorship, at least one (1) of the authors must hold a Doctoral degree.

1.4 – They must contain research results in the field of Science and Mathematics Education, explicitly evidencing objectives, procedures, and analyses, and must not consist of experience reports or literature reviews.

1.5 – They must comply with the formal aspects indicated in the Author Guidelines.

1.6 – At the time of submission, articles must not be identified with the authors’ names in the original text. Authors must indicate their full names exclusively in the field provided in the submission system, and it is mandatory to inform academic degree, ORCID, institutional affiliation, curriculum link (Lattes for Brazilian authors), and a brief biographical summary.

1.7 – Opinions and perspectives expressed in the text, as well as the accuracy and origin of citations, are the sole responsibility of the author.

1.8 – In case of acceptance, the manuscript must undergo language revision and bibliographic standardization, which will be the exclusive responsibility of the author. A declaration attesting to the work performed by this professional must be submitted to RECEM.

1.9 – Submissions simultaneously sent to another national or international journal will not be accepted.

1.10 – Manuscripts that do not comply with the editorial requirements of RECEM will be returned to the authors. This includes texts that do not address a central issue in the field of Science and Mathematics Education or do not present significant contributions to the analysis of the topic addressed. Additionally, articles will be rejected if they:
a) are merely descriptive, without developing a theoretical and methodological analysis of the issue addressed;
b) are experience reports or fragments of dissertations or theses;
c) do not present empirical elements or sufficiently developed arguments to support their analyses and conclusions.

The Editorial Committee may decide to publish articles, documents, or interviews by invitation, aiming to contribute to pressing debates in the field. Such articles or documents will be evaluated exclusively by the Editorial Committee.

Approved articles will be made available on the journal’s website, as well as in all repositories in which the journal is indexed.

2 – The minimum academic qualification required of authors is undergraduate student status, provided that at least one of the authors holds a Doctoral degree.

3 – RECEM adopts procedures to avoid conflicts of interest during the evaluation stages of submitted articles. To prevent author identification, no explicit reference to authorship should be made in the body of the text, footnotes, or citations. The use of the format “XXX” is recommended to replace the author’s name and the title of the work. In case of acceptance for publication, the editorial team will contact the authors to retrieve the information while preserving anonymity.

4 – RECEM, in accordance with the CRediT taxonomy, distinguishes between authorship and contribution.
Authorship is reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions at multiple stages of the work, especially in conception, methodology, execution, and writing. That is, authors are those who actively participated in the creation of the intellectual content of the work, assume responsibility for the results and accuracy of the study, and are able to publicly defend the research.
Contribution refers to individuals with important participation that may not be comprehensive enough to justify authorship, such as software development used in the research; verification of result accuracy; creation of figures and tables for data presentation; guidance and supervision of the research work; and, among others, provision of materials and other resources.

5 – Formatting: The Journal of Education in Science and Mathematics accepts submissions of full articles.

5.1 Articles must have a minimum of fifteen (15) and a maximum of twenty-five (25) pages (including references, figures, and explanatory notes). The manuscript must include: introduction with the guiding question and objectives (general and specific), theoretical framework, methodological procedures, results and discussion, conclusion, and references. Regarding formatting standards, please observe:

  • Title in Portuguese in Times New Roman 14, centered, bold. Single spacing, with 1.5 spacing between titles.

  • Title in English in Times New Roman 14, centered, italic. Single spacing, with 1.5 spacing between titles.

https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references

Figures, charts, graphs, tables, etc., must follow APA 7 standards. APA recognizes only two types of illustrations: tables and figures. Everything that is not a table is considered a figure (e.g., drawings, diagrams, flowcharts, photographs, graphs, maps, organizational charts, plans, frames, portraits, images).

It is essential that authors’ names, affiliations, and emails are correctly registered in the Metadata and in the correct order of authorship so that editors can insert them into the article if published. Each article may have a maximum of four authors.

Articles are received on a continuous submission basis.

It is emphasized that original articles must present research results in the field of Science and Mathematics Education, explicitly evidencing objectives, procedures, and analyses, and should not consist of experience reports or literature reviews.
