PROMOÇÃO DA SAÚDE E MUDANÇAS GLOBAIS: O DESAFIO DA REORIENTAÇÃO DOS SERVIÇOS DE SAÚDE

O advento da epidemia de SARS (Síndrome Aguda do Sistema
Respiratório) no Canadá, em 2003, a onda de calor na Europa,
os constantes desafios para a saúde humana resultantes de
eventos climáticos extremos (ex.: vendavais, tufões etc.) e
os problemas do dia-a-dia da insuficiência de saneamento,
poluição do ar e falta de imunização nos países em desenvolvimento,apontam para a necessidade de uma Equipe de
Saúde Pública (PHWF) eficaz, local, nacional e, até mesmo,
internacional. Neste artigo, os desafios de criar uma PHWF
eficaz estão colocados, em primeiro lugar, no contexto da
promoção da saúde e das mudanças globais. Utilizando-se
da experiência recente com a epidemia de SARS no Canadá,
em 2003, e o trabalho executado para a Organização Panamericana de Saúde (PAHO), são discutidas a necessidade de
definir o Trabalho de Saúde Pública (PHW) e o que se exige
de um PHW para superar os desafios da promoção da saúde
e das mudanças globais. Concluímos avaliando os projetos
de criação de um PHW eficaz dentro do modelo de promoção
de saúde e mudanças globais.
